I've wanted to try this collage technique for several months. It took a lot more time than I thought it would have! But after 2 hours of experimenting and futzing, I'm happy with the results. I may have become addicted to another technique!!

I started this more as a photo blog, then added art and crafts and now, well...nothing is off limits because I'm spilling open! I'll be posting pics of friends and family - I know a few of you don't want to be 'published' so I'll keep you anonymous. If you see your pic here but don't want it up, just let me know and I'll happily remove. The last thing I want is to make anyone uncomfortable or unhappy. Cheers and thanks for visiting!

Well, I'm not that great at giving detailed written instructions but I'll try. These are basic instructions; you should have a little working knowledge of photoshop.
-open the photo in Photoshop
-open a new blank document that's huge. I used 30" x 40" @ 300 dpi.
-in the original photo, select a random 4x6 portion of the photo and copy it.
-in the blank document, paste it. zoom into it so you can see it closer.
-keep doing that till everything is arranged and lined up to your satisfaction.
-for each section (which should all be in their own layer), create a tiny white border by clicking: edit, stroke, 3px width, color white, location outside, blending mode normal, opacity 100% then click ok. (experiment w/ the color and px size to your satisfaction)
-create a drop shadow for each section by clicking: Layer, layer style, drop shadow for each section.
-change your background to black in its own layer
-crop to your satisfaction.
Note: I increased the stroke in the center 'photo' to draw the viewer's attention there just for balance in this instance. Use this if you want to draw attention to a particular section whether or not its in the center.
It's really quite easy if you know Photoshop basics and it wouldn't take me nearly as long now that I know the steps. There may be another way others use but I just did it by trial and error.
