Kennedy Meadows

About 40 minutes from the cabin is Kennedy Meadows. Looks a lot like the scenes from "A River Runs Through It" huh? Amazingly picturesque. That's the Stanislaus River. This was the first time we've hiked to the meadow, only a 20 minute hike from the parking lot. We continued hiking for a couple more miles to an amazing waterfall and geocache find. You can horseback ride if that suits you better. We prefer to hike so we had to watch our step with all the horse poo.

Fighting Hummingbirds

Jimmy took this picture yesterday morning. The hummer on the right is very possessive of the feeder. He sits in a nearby tree and whenever other hummingbirds approach he attacks them and chases them away. It's pretty funny to watch. The possessive one has a bright metallicky red head but you have to catch it in the right lighting to see it, otherwise it looks black.

Illustration Friday: Dreams
"Do something every day that scares you".
I don't necessarily subscribe to this motto. I wish I could, but I usually run far, far away from things that scare me. But today I did something that scares me, so to speak. I'm confident enough to publish my photos and submit them to other websites for challenges and contests, but as far as doodles or drawings...well, I'm so inept at it that to actually have a bunch of people look at it frightens me. But I took the plunge and submitted one of my doodles. Illustration Friday is another website that offers themed weekly challenges. There are some seriously talented people out there! But the environment feels welcoming enough for doodlers to partake in the fun without any judgment of being a 'real' artist or not. For some reason though (fear again?), I'm not publishing it to this blog but to another page on my website. You can see it here.

Moody Monday - Centered

Last year, San Francisco had a city wide "Hearts of San Francisco" display. This heart was at the San Francisco Ballet Association facing City Hall. You can see more pics here.
I submitted this photo for Moody Monday's Challenge.

Grace

One of the cards I created last year.
'Grace' speaks to me in many different ways. I strive to be gracious in everything I do. It's my middle name. It's part of the name for this website. I live on Grace Avenue and I used to live on Gracemont Street in Whittier 12 years ago.
There's this brand of skin care product called 'Philosophy' and one of their lines is called 'Grace'. They have this quote on it that I love:
Amazing grace is the person who lives in a state of love, forgiveness, and total compassion.
It is the person who is not afraid to be wrong and doesn't need to be right.
It is the humble spirit who lets others shine and helps those who cannot find their light.
It is the person who prays for others and not for oneself.
It is the person who has let their self out and the spirit in.

Waterfall at Russian Gulch State Park

Taken July 2004 along Fern Canyon Trail in the Russian Gulch State Park in Mendocino.
I submitted this photo to JPG Magazine.
Old Soulsbyville Sawmill

We've had the cabin in the Sierra's for 6 years and there's this one road that we've never driven down. A few weeks ago, I finally decided to make that left turn. I had no idea structure what this was, but happily there was a friendly gentleman in his yard and I mustred up the courage to ask him - which is out of character for me - but he said the sawmill burned down in the 80's. I've tried googling for more info but haven't been able to find anything else.
