Bear Tat

Several years ago, one of my cousin's got a tatoo. I went with her, watched the tatoo artist infuse the ink into her skin. Afterwards, she said "You should get one."

Yea. Right. Not gonna happen.

But I had to wonder if I would, what would I get? I knew almost immediately - a bear fetish. For as long as I can remember, I've felt a connection with Native American culture. I've also felt like the bear has been my animal spirit, a talisman, so to speak.

This is the first time I've sketched what my tatoo would look like, with the help of some PS brushes from Miss M. I probably never took the time to sketch one because I'm never gonna get it. What's the point, really? But with this week's topic to Illustration Friday, I finally had a reason to. Now I have a virtual tatoo.

I like your idea of having a image-tattoo - and a strong bear

I like your illo. What is the significance, if any, of the writing behind the bear?

georg - yup, an image tatoo is much less of a commitment.

jim - no significance at all. I just liked how it looked behind the bear. They're photoshop brushes from www.rebel-heart.net. I should have taken more time and created my own words of significance. If I had, I would may have used 'strength', 'courage', 'grace', 'compassion', 'patience'.

I know exactly where you should put it!!! hee!!!

I like the background! I think you took the idea of the tattoo to a different level of art with the text in the background.

This image also makes me think of Baby Teddy : .)

Great idea and illo! I've got one from an actual Hopi couple who made and sold them roadside in New Mexico. Pretty amazing and intricate stuff.

I've actually thought about a tattoo, wondering if I'd ever get one (probably not) and if so, what it would be. Definitely a wolf, my Spirit Guide. A wolf howling at the moon :)

Great PhotoShopping.

I myself have an eye of horus...pretty hidden...just for me. I am South American, but I've always felt a sort of attraction to egyptian culture...strange... Maybe in a past life...
what do you think?

I like the thought behind the bear tat, cool image!! I don't know what my animal spirit is, something for me to think about.

Good choice for a talisman and great art. Bears have a special place in my heart... I mourn the fact that California has none of its state animals left within its borders... no grizzlies left here anymore. Your post above celebrates the low-elevation snowfall. The hills around the Salinas Valley were wonderful. Still a very little on the highest hilltops.
