struggling to figure it all out

so, this has been how i've felt the last couple of weeks.

In July I got a new macbook and we (Jimmy) finally transfered all of my PC stuff onto it about 2 weeks ago so I've been fully Mac'd since then.
The transition hasn't been as easy as I had hoped.
Things aren't as intuitive as I had hoped.
Viewing and editing my photos hasn't been as easy as I had hoped.
Therefore, blogging hasn't been as easy as I had hoped.
Part of my frustration is that supposedly, mac is much easier to use and more intuitive. Like my MIL, she got a mac for Christmas last year and seriously? within minutes she was like, this is freakin' awesome and was all click-click-click ba-da-bing ba-da-boom. Me? I'm like bog-bog-bog what the??
Jimmy's been kind to my ego by saying that since I was such a skilled user on the PC, my adjustment period will be longer because of my old habits. And now I have to learn. What? Learn, are you kidding me?

What I have been having fun with is a program called Photobooth that uses the camera in the computer and that's how i took that silly self-portrait. Which is about a week old - yesterday I chopped of my hair and got it colored (for the first time in 11 years). The jury's still out on if it's a good thing or not.
On a brighter note, I leave you with a pretty hydrangea from my MIL's garden.

Impending doom

If you notice white or green fuzziness on something you've already eaten 1/2 of, chances are, you've eaten mold and can expect a stomach ache soon.

Brilliant.

Motel AMC

I tried to go to a movie today. I went to see "In The Land Of Women" and from what I could hear, it was good. There were 3 of us in the theater. The couple sat in the very back and chatted thru the previews. A lot of people talk thru the previews, so I didn't mind. There's only been one other time when I was annoyed by chatters during a movie because most of the time, people are considerate. They also came to watch a movie, so they're paying attention.

Most of the time.

Not today.

When the movie started, they chatted a little, but were also making out occasionally, so I'd get breaks where they weren't talking. Then her phone rang. She carried on a 15 minute conversation, obviously upset because her voice kept getting louder and louder. Finally, she hung up, but now she had to tell her boyfriend all about it.

Thru all of this, I'm thinking, "You guys just paid $8.25 each to Not Watch A Movie. What the...heck."

After a little bit, they were "quiet" again, till she got another phone call. This one didn't last as long, because she was anxious to get back to what she was doing. And then, the making out...went to that place where you really don't wanna hear.

Then I realized that $16.50 is a lot cheaper than a motel.

Yikes.

My tv won't turn on.
I.don't.know.what.I'm.going.to.do.
My IT guy is gone till 11:30 Sunday night, and that tv is so complicated, i can't diagnose what's wrong with it.
And believe it or not, we're a one tv household. No crawling into bed and watching re-runs in there.
And did TiVo record Grey's Anatomy last night?

This is really gonna screw up my weekend plans of doing absolutely nothing except watch dvd's.

Well, hopefully Jimmy can talk me thru fixing it. And I'm not gonna be home till midnight tonight so really, it's only 2 days that I might have to go with tv. Two.Long.Days.

Pathetic, isn't it?

Question to all my blogspot buddies

Those of you who don't use Picasa, how long does it take you to upload photos to your post?

Picasa limits me to 4 photos per post. Annoying. But when I go thru blogger, it takes soooo freaking long to upload just one photo. When I try to upload more than one the wait is excruciating and I always end up canceling the process and just go back to Picasa. Am I doing something wrong?

Also, those on the new blogger...is there a way to know the percentage of 'done' the publishing is at like in old blogger? Or am I just not seeing it? It just says "Publishing is in process" with the exclamation warning sign thingy up.

what's that smell?

I set a few eggs on the stove to come to a boil. In the meantime, I went into the office to read a few blogs.
...35 minutes later...I hear a crackling popping noise from the kitchen.
Uh oh.
All the water had boiled off and the pan is sizzling. With half a dozen dry eggs in it.

The house reaks of overcooked eggs. and burnt pan.

ugh.

Turning on Word Verification

I've been blogging for a year and a half and I haven't had the need to turn on Word Verification, until now. I've received over a dozen blogger comment spams in the past week. More than I've had in the whole 16 months that I've been blogging.

So I'm turning on Word Verification.

Bah.

Outlet Malls

I went to the Gilroy Outlet Center the other day to return something I bought online from Eddie Bauer. Figuring it was an outlet store, I assumed the prices would be cheap and the sales would be rampant. Wrong. Maybe most things were a max of $10-$12 off regular price of last season's clothes. There were a couple of racks in the back that had 40% off, but nothing in my style or size. All I want is one simple summer skirt...you'd think that summer stuff would be marked 60-70% off...nope. In fact, there were hardly any summer clothes at all, 98% of the clothes in there were fall.
Last night, Phin and I went to Valley Fair and I found a skirt in the sales rack at Nordstrom, $21. That same skirt would have been $39.99 at the outlet center. That seems to be their magic number. Plus, if I decide against keeping it, Nordstrom is only 4 miles away, whereas the Outlet center is 30ish miles away.
Truthfully, I'm pretty annoyed at shopping. It's more of a chore rather than an event or fun thing to do. Remember in high school and college, or right after you had your first real job out of college and shopping was the best thing to do with all of your free time and money? Not anymore.

Bold squirrel in my MIL's yard.

Another Hot Day

Oh how I wish we were at the lake.

Today's temps in San Jose peaked at 108, muggy and partially cloudy. The air was thick. Blech. We were watching the Weather Channel this evening and saw that 75% of homes in the nation have air conditioners. I was surprised because I'm sure that less than 40% of the homes in the Bay Area have AC. Because of this, people are seeking refuge outside of their homes. We went to the movies today and the line was long. The people behind us said "Is this the end of the line for air conditioning?" People joked about how they didn't care what they movie they saw, just let 'em in the theatre. Unfortunately for one viewer though, it was too late. Jimmy and I took our seats and the poor woman in front of us was having a heat stroke. I'm not exaggerating. She was young and fit, in her 20's. But she was delirious, foaming at the mouth, eyes rolled back and sweating uncontrollably. The paramedics came, gave her oxygen and took her out. It was very sad and scary. I hope she's ok now.

We saw "The Lady in the Water". It was very good and totally not what I expected. I'll end with that lest I give anything away. Posted by Picasa
